The Amundsen Sports Experience

Since 1911

Roald Amundsen embarked on a journey to conquer the South Pole in 1911. An unexplored destination.
In 1911, Roald Amundsen embarked on a historic journey to conquer the South Pole. Unlike his predecessors, Amundsen understood the importance of learning from those who had mastered survival in extreme environments. He turned to the Inuits, immersing himself in their community for several years to gain invaluable insights into their ancient wisdom and cutting-edge technology for outdoor adventure in polar climates.

Friluftsliv is a mindset, not just an activity or a competition. It encapsulates the appreciation for nature's gifts and the freedom from the daily hustle that rejuvenates and fortifies us for a fulfilling and stable existence. Remember, life is meant to be enjoyed!

Amundsen's decision to embrace the wisdom of the Inuits proved to be a game-changer. By combining their generational knowledge with strategic modern alterations, he was able to achieve what others had failed to accomplish. His success in reaching the South Pole was a testament to the power of unlocking ancient wisdom for modern adventure.

JØrgen Amundsen, the founder and CEO of Amundsen Sports, was inspired by his great grand uncle Roald to question the way people dressed for outdoor activities. Concerned with the loss of essential knowledge over the centuries, he joined forces with his childhood friend Erik Friis to create an innovative outdoor brand. Staying true to Roald's principles, they combined tradition and innovation to improve the lives of outdoor enthusiasts. And even today, every product undergoes thorough field testing to ensure durable quality.
