Washing & Care
Washing & Care
IN THE WARDROBE / AFTER USE
When you’re preparing winter clothes for storage, the most important thing to ensure is that they’re clean and dry.
WASHING YOUR ITEMS
STEP 1
- Before washing your product brush off any loose mud or dirt.
- Close all zippers and velcro’s before putting the garment in the washing machine.
- Wash your garment according to the care label, preferably on a gentle cycle and slow spin.
- Do not bleach or use fabric softener
- Do not dry clean
STEP 2
- Place garment in the tumble dryer (up to 2 garments max)
- Tumble dry on low heat (Drying balls / tennis balls. The drying balls will help to distribute the down evenly and maintain the loft effect. Use 2 tennis balls per garment, place them in the dryer).
- Tumble dry until completely dry. Please note: You might need to do several drying cycles. Remember to shake and fluff up the garment manually between each cycle, to break down any clumps that might be forming. This ensure your garment will be fully dry and thus keep you warm longer!
WHEN DO I NEED TO DO THE REPROOFING?
To test if the DWR is still preforming you should sprinkling or spraying water on the shoulders, waist, and back. If the water beads up and rolls away, your jacket’s good for another round. If any water absorbs into the jacket or the color of the fabric changes, the DWR needs reproofing. The impregnation is reactivated at low heat and ready for new adventures. The chains of molecules of the fluorocarbon finish return to their original condition through the heat treatment generated by the ironing process. Water droplets or dirt particles then have a significantly smaller contact area on the fabric and this greatly reduces their adhesive strength. Water and dirt are once more repelled.
THE RESULTS OF REPROOFING
Over time, the water repellency will be worn away. This will take place especially in vulnerable places like the shoulders, elbows, seat, and knees. To optimize the product ́s abilities, it should be treated after each wash, or when the water repellency is not performing optimally. For water repellency treatments, we recommend the use of environmentally friendly water repellents. Spray treatment ensures that only the outer side of the garment will be water repellent, which optimizes the moisture transportation of the product.
REPROOFING STEP BY STEP
STEP 1
- Wash your garment according to the care label
- Close all zippers and velcro’s before putting the garment in the washing machine.
- As a rule, it is essential not to use fabric softener since it will destroy the fabric over time.
STEP 2
- Dry the jacket according to the care label, and then test the DWR by sprinkling or spraying water on the shoulders, waist, and back.
STEP 3
- Iron on low heat (1 Point is recommended, without steam). It’s important to use a thin kitchen towel between the iron and the fabric during the ironing.
